GRACELAND CEMETERY: Originally known as "Brown's Burying Ground," the land for the cemetery was purchased from George W. "Hoo Doo" and Sarah E. Brown, March 23, 1887, for the sum of $2,000.00. The Browns asked that the name be changed to "Graceland" in memory of their small daughter, Grace, who had been buried there. A corporation was formed, and in 1935, a cemetery district was incorporated.
