Dalton Days Wild West Fest June 7^th & 8^th 2008

Dalton Days Wild West Fest “Showdown on Crooked Creek” will once again be hosting the Reenactment Guild of America gunfight and living history competition in Meade, Kansas at the Dalton Gang Hideout. The event is sanctioned by the RGA with gunfight groups and living historians coming from Texas, Kansas and possibly other states with RGA members to compete for top honors and cash prizes. This is an open event so you do not have to be a member of RGA to compete. Applications for the event can be found on the RGA website, rgamerica.org.

Bright and early Saturday morning the Dalton Fun Run will begin with sprinters from all over the area competing for the honor of being the fastest foot racer in Meade County. Besides the gunfighters and living historians there will be stick horse races for young and old alike, sack races, stick and hoop races for the kids. A homemade ice cream crank off is always a big hit with local organizations churning out their own ice cream recipes in hand cranked ice cream freezers. A parade through downtown Meade is also on the schedule for Saturday morning. The theme for this year’s parade is “Favorite Western Characters”. Whether they are real historic figures, or your favorite silver screen cowboy, cowgirl, lawman or outlaw we would like to see you in the parade. Saturday evening there will be a dance with some old time dances being done as well as some more modern steps in the mix. Sunday we will have cowboy church to start off the day followed by more gunfights and living history. Both days there will be a chuck wagon breakfast served for all hungry cowboys and cowgirls. Old West vendors and food booths will be in the offing both days.
